Why study voice with me, Erica Skowron? I have been teaching voice and working as a professional musician for 30 years. I Have many interests and this eclectic knowledge helps me to relate to students of all ages and I am able to adapt my teaching style to suit many different personality types I am a very patient teacher but if you have big goals, I will show how to work to achieve them. Music can be a light fun activity or it can be challenging and a lot of hard work. It depends on why you want to learn music. All reasons are valid. I am happy to help you achieve whichever goals you are interested in.
I have been the principal oboe with the Prince George Symphony for 29 years and have performed many solos with them including: Six Studies in Folksong for English horn and orchestra, Mozart Concertante for Four Winds, Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto, Marcello Oboe Concerto, Albinoni D Minor Concerto,the Vivaldi D Minor KV 454 Concerto as an oboist and Rose Prince from Symphony of Saints by Gordon Lucas, Kapliow’s Green Eggs and Ham, Handel’s Messiah, Brahms Alto Rhapsody, Bach Cantata # 54, Mahler Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen, Vivaldi Stabat Mater as a singer.
I have also performed both as a vocal soloist and an oboe soloist at the Mostly Mozart Festival in Kelowna, BC and has the pleasure of touring much of the beautiful BC and Yukon with a small chamber group both singing and playing.
My training has taken me across the globe. I moved here from Toronto where I completed the Orchestral training Program at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto. I completed an honours Bachelor in Music Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario studying oboe with James Mason and voice with Patricia Pascoe. Prior to that I spent a year studying at the Conservatoire Nationale de Sant Maur in La Varrenne, France.
Further Study has included the International Voice Workshop with Richard Armstrong at Banff, Institute of Voice Performance Pedagogy with Richard Miller at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Early Music Vancouver Baroque Workshop, Ray Still Masterclass in Vancouver, John Mack Oboe Camp in North Carolina, Banff School of Fine Arts summer masterclasses, the Sarasota festival, the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the Ontario Youth Choir. I have also studied Kodaly music education with several teachers including one who was a student of Kodaly himself.
I am currently with the PGSO, perform with Alban Classical Artists, direct the Trinity United Church choir and teach voice, oboe and piano.
